K S Hegde Medical Academy [KSHEMA]– medical college in Deralakatte, Mangalore.  Managed by the NITTE Education Trust, which runs a number of professional colleges in the state of Karnataka. The college offers the MBBS course along with post-graduation courses.  Affiliated to RGUHS (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences) till 2009 and now  affiliated to NITTE (Deemed to be) University.

KSHEMA has been proactive in developing and adopting teaching-learning activities that provide its students with the best opportunities for hands-on training. Initiatives like mentorship programs, skill laboratory, integrated learning, e-learning resources and objective assessment practices are the highlights of the academic programs offered by the Institution. The Institution takes pride in its dedicated faculty and non-teaching staff who strive to create a conducive environment for the students to grow into competent professionals.

Courses

KS Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), Mangalore, Karnataka  established in 1999. It turned into a constituent school of NITTE University in 2009. The university offers MBBS, MD/MS and M.Ch programs perceived by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Other than this, it offers B.Sc, M.Sc, MPH, MHAHSM courses in various fields. The Institution  collaborat and research linkage with global and public associations like the Wake Forest University(USA), University of Toronto(Canada), BARC Research Center, Mangalore University, India and St. John’s Research Institute, India. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students  urge to participate in research activities.

The admission under the General merit category – on the basis of merit(rank) obtained in the All India Entrance Test, NEET, conducted by NTA .

KSHEMA has signed an agreement of co-operation with The University Of Texas Health Science Center,USA for co-operation in research. The college has established a state-of-the-art regional research centre on communicable diseases. The Institute also has a staff exchange and training programme with Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, USA.

The college hospital recently opened a super specialty block for Nuclear Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Urology, Nephrology, Plastic Surgery, Gastroenterology and Oncology. KSHEMA was ranked 23 among medical colleges in India in 2019 .Also KSHEMA was ranked 36 among medical colleges in India in 2020 by NIRF.

Facilities

library

Well stocked library with a floor area of 2512 sq.meter. The library is air-conditioned, well protected with fire alarm and CCTV surveillance. It can comfortably accommodate more than 350 users at a time. Its collections include printed books, e-books, back volumes, WHO publications and CDs/DVDs including MEDLINE on CD-ROM and other resources .The central library subscribes to National and International journals in print and e-journals. It is the member of the HELINET consortium and DELNET also. The library has subscription to UpToDate:Evidence Based Medical decision support service resource. The central library is using the Easylib software for library Automation.

transportation

A fleet of buses and vans are maintained in the campus to provide transport facilities to the students and staff, free of cost.

gymnasium

The air-conditioned multi Gymnasium housed in a 5500 sq. ft building is kept open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the benefit of both students and hostellers. The services of 3 professionally trained instructors are available. Equipments consist of Treadmills, elliptical trainers, exercise bikes, rowing machines, and a full-fledged multi-gym

hostels

The hostels are on campus and in close proximity to both college and hospital. Separate hostel for both boys and girls .

The hostel fee for the first year which includes the caution deposit, mess advance and the room rent all collected at the time of admission. The room rent for the subsequent academic years thus ,collected at the beginning of each year along with the college fee. Caution deposit  refunded only at the end of the course. Establishment charges and other utilities like electricity and water also collected.

sports

The sports facilities in the campus consist of an athletic turf track of 400 mtrs, Football ground, Cricket pitch, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball and Badminton courts for instance .

The campus has facilities also for indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess and Carrom.

Kshema Literary Forum founded with an intention to excavate the creativity and love for language within the students and also provide them a unique platform for its expression.
For all those who know “pen is mightier than sword” this is their arena. Thus, foster their hidden talents and bring out the roaring ideas within them into the lime-light to a pretty good extend. Some of the most successful and crowd-pulling events, conducted under the literary Forum. Thus given an opportunity to register students opinions on various topics .
