Govinda Dasa College
Govinda Dasa College , founded in the year 1967 and affiliated to Mangalore University offers Bachelor Degree courses in Arts, Commerce, Science, Business Management and Computer Application for both girls and boys. It is accredited by NAAC with a ‘B++’ Grade. The Hindu Vidyadayinee Sangha, which manages the college and other sister institutions, was founded on 30-11-1916, with the starting of Iddya Vidyadayinee School in the precincts of Sri Iddya Mahalingeshwara Temple, by the visionary teachers and well wishers. Vidyadayinee High School was started in the year 1944 and the next step was the starting of Govinda Dasa College in the year 1967.
The College Management and Faculty believe that the best way to prepare the youth for a career is through quality education with emphasis on human values and virtues.
To facilitate students, largely coming from rural areas, reach higher levels of knowledge, capabilities and human values by the pursuit of excellence and promotion of quality for leadership.

Facilities
The primary purpose of the hostel is to provide an environment that is conducive for concentrated study and cultivate a life style of discipline and co-operation.Well secured ,conveniently located hostel facility for girl students.Discipline is practiced through well-maintained timings and study hours with strict vigilance exercised with regard to visitors.All students are expected to present in the hostel by 6.30 pm.
Round the clock hot water supply through solar heaters and uninterrupted lighting system are ensured. Indoor and outdoor games and reading hall are also provided.
Responsible wardens and supervisory staff looks after the welfare of the students. Discipline is practiced through well-maintained timings and study hours with strict vigilance exercised with regard to visitors.
Festivals are celebrated to make students feel homely. Sports is conducted for the students . Hostel day is celebrated with students participating in cultural activities.
Students at GDC have the opportunity to avail numerous scholarships to financially aid their education. Scholarships ranging from Govt. Sponsored scholarships to the aid provided by various charitable organizations and philanthropists are also available to student.
Free mid-day meal
Free mid-day meal given to deserving students through PTA for Degree and post graduate students. PTA members , alumni and donors contribute to the mid day meal. Deserving students are considered by taking into account their academics, financial background and overall performance and Nearly 50 students are benefited from the scheme.
Library
The library at Govinda Dasa College is spacious, resourceful and state-of-the art with E-Library systems integrated into our system. Established in the year 1967. And then moved to independent building in 1982. The first half for reading and reference purposes as well as the other space for stacking and virtual library purpose.
The library boasts of a large collection of book on all topics related to academics and topics beyond. Mean while , the library has about 48,902 books covering a wide variety of subjects. Its also received 11 news papers and 28 magazines for the purpose of general reading. Finally 26 periodicals on various subject to facilitate current reading on different subjects.
The Bachelor of Science course requires students to complete certain number of hours in the science laboratories and conduct several experiments required by the syllabus.
The Laboratories at GDC :
Physics Laboratory:
The Physics lab explores various experiments that demonstrate, study several phenomena and formulae that are a consequence of physics. The plethora of apparatus and devices meant for the purpose of studying concepts in the field of mechanics, thermodynamics, electronics etc.
Dark room is also available exclusively to conduct various experiments based on light.
Mounted projector and presentation system are also available . Therefore , this enables to screen science documentaries for the students.
The physics lab along with the experimental syllabus also promotes amateur astronomy and conducts regular sunspot views and sky watch programs. For this purpose, the laboratory consists of a 8” Dobsonian Mount Reflector Telescope and a 3” Refractor Telescope, both powered by tracker systems.
The laboratory demonstrate concepts , not included in practical syllabus but required in theory.
The students also actively involve in building models and apparatus for competition and demonstration purposes.
Chemistry Laboratory:
Department provide well equipped laboratory which accommodate 24 students for practical’s in one batch .
On the other hand from regular teaching the department starts conducting student centered activities like “Do it yourself” and “Reaching out the society” and industrial visits.
Instruments like Centrifugation machine, Potentiometer,Conductivity meter, Melting point apparatus , Colorimeter,pH meter consequently used in the laboratory.
The chemistry lab along with experimental syllabus also invites and attracts students from various schools and PU colleges and demonstrates various experiments in the laboratory.
The laboratory also encourages research activites for the students.
Mathematics Laboratory:
Mangalore University introduce practicals for Mathematics subject in Bsc. In our college “Mathematics laboratory” inaugurated with 10 computers sponsored by MRPL under its CSR project. Used for practical programming purpose. The laboratory with LCD projector system also available for Bsc practicals .
Computer Science Department consists of 3 laboratories with a total of 80 computers configured for practical programming purpose.
The systems under each lab run on Windows 10, Windows 7 and Ubuntu Operating Systems as required by various softwares.

Talents are boundless. GDC students have been setting new benchmarks, in all fields especially in the field of arts from past three years.
It was in February 2019, when our Cultural Team represented India in an International Level, that the managing authority and the PTA of GDC felt a need to establish a Cultural Training Centre to unleash the talents of our students and the society by training and providing them with a platform to uplift the culture of our land to a new horizon. Therefore led to the birth of “KALABDHI- The Ocean of Talent” -a new official Cultural Training Centre in the academic year 2019-2020.
Sports & Games
The physical education at Govinda Dasa College include numerous sports and represent our college and even our university in multiple sports disciplines.
VIDYARTHI KSHEMA
Vidyarthi Kshema (Focus On Student Welfare) – Group Of Insurance Scheme for students by giving financial assistance per annum , who lose their parents or those who injured or hospitalized .Majority of the students come from rural and semi urban areas with disadvantaged financial background. Majority of the parents are earning their bread through cooli work, beedi rolling, fishing etc. Therefore, the Management has decided to institute an internal Group Insurance called Vidyarthi Kshema, meaning welfare of a student.
Admission procedure
Eligibility
Admission to the course is open to all students who have passed the recognized Pre-University course examination conducted by P.U.Board Govt. of Karnataka or by other equivalent examinations as approved by Mangalore University.
How to Apply
Eligible candidate can apply for admission through duly filled application along with fees .
Students seeking admission from Govinda Dasa P.U.College with a score 85% and above are eligible for fee concession.

Prospectus and Application Form
Once the admissions are open, the prospectus shall be available at Admission Desk at the College Office.
Submission of Application Form
- Firstly , filled applications form should be submitted within Five days after the publication of PUC Board result . Only true copies of certificates allowded .
- Secondly join with in the date after paying the College fees and other fees.
- Thirdly ,uncompleted application forms will be rejected .
- In addition , All admissions made are provisional and subject to the approval of the University of Mangalore.
- The exact day on which classes commence will be notified on the college notice board at the time of admission.
