vijayalakshmi institute of hospitality sciences (VIHS) was established in the year 2004, with in order to enhance the skill set of individuals looking for a career in the tourism and hotel industry. The institution aims to be a source of skilled manpower to the hotel and allied industries in India and abroad.

Vijayalakshmi Institute of Hospitality Sciences offers three-year Bachelor of Science degrees in the fields of hotel management (B. Sc. (H.S.)) and Interior design and decoration (B. Sc. (ID & D)). Both the Degree programmes are affiliated to Mangalore University, Mangalore. The Institute is located in the Srinivas Campus at the heart of Mangalore city.

Vijayalakshmi Institute of Hospitality Sciences offers two academic under graduate programmes Mangalore University, Mangalore.

 

  1.  Bachelor of Hospitality Sciences (B.Sc- H.S)
  2.  Bachelor of Interior Design and Decoration (B.Sc. ID & D)

 

Bachelors of Hospitality Science (B.Sc. (H.S)) degree course follows the Credit Based Semester Scheme and spans for six semesters- 3 years

 

Interior Design and Decoration

 

Interior Design and Decoration deals with the elements inside a building, such as windows, walls, lights, furniture. It is a mixture of architecture, product design as well as decoration aesthetics which implies that there is more of an emphasis on Planning, Functional design and effective use of space involved in this profession. An interior designer can undertake projects that include arranging the basic layout of spaces within a building as well as projects that require an understanding of technical issues such as acoustics, lighting, temperature, etc. An interior designer may wish to specialize in a particular type of interior design in order to develop technical knowledge specific to that area. Types of interior design include residential design, commercial design, hospitality design, healthcare design, universal design, exhibition design, spatial branding, etc. The profession of Interior Design is relatively new, constantly evolving, and often confusing to the public. NCIDQ, the board for Interior Design qualifications, defines the profession in the best way: The Professional Interior Designer is qualified by education, experience, examination to enhance the function and quality of interior spaces.

Design Studio:

 

 Where the students study the basics of modeling, geometric design and drawings.

 

Civil Studio :

 

A place where the students are exposed to the different types of building materials, their utilization etc.

 

Auto CAD Studio :

 

Where the students learn how to draw using computed aided design software.

 

Food Production Lab:

 

The college has a modern training kitchen where the future chefs trained in the intricacies of cooking. Also exposed to the latest trends and methodology practiced by the hotel industry the world over. Students also encouraged to come up with new ideas and given every possible opportunity to showcase their skills and talents in various food festivals organised by the college.

 

Mock bar & Training Restaurant:

 

Food and Beverage Service is one of the most important operations in a hotel. The college has a well equipped training lab to facilitate training of the students in the art of service of food and beverages. Our students also organise intercollegiate cocktail and mocktail making competitions. Bar training and flairing skills help the students to become better bar personnel.

 

House Keeping Lab:

 

A model guest room setup is provided to the students to learn the standard procedures of accommodation operations. The students learn the art of upkeep of rooms and common areas, linen etc. One of the department which helps you to achieve fast track promotions and growth in the industry. It also helps to enhance the creative skills of the students.

 

Front Office Lab:

 

A well equipped front desk with equipments. Students trained to welcome and make a guest feel at home in the hotel. A lot of emphasis  placed on soft skills like communication, telephone etiquettes etc. Students thus taught how to handle various equipments, softwares & live situations faced by the front office personnels at any five star hotels.

 

Computer Lab:

 

Well – appointed computer lab with all latest equipments & devices. Besides the normal computer literacy lectures other related soft wares, which are useful for the students in the day- to- day usage in hotel & other circumstances, are also facilitated.

 

Library:

 

Enriched with a collection of titles and subscription to both international and national journals. The collection in our library enhance the student’s classroom learning experience and make a better hospitality professional.

 

Training & Placement Cell:

 

The college has a dedicated training and placement cell that interacts with the students and hospitality organisations. The cell facilitates placement of the students for training as well as for jobs. The cell also trains the students to face interviews, group discussions and helps in personality development.
