Vivekananda Law College
Vivekananda Law College founded at Puttur during the year 1988-89 in order to meet the growing need of the students seeking legal education in South Eastern areas of Dakshina Kannada District, Kodagu and other adjoining districts of Karnataka and the Kannada speaking Kasaragod area of Kerala State. It is also intended to make legal education available nearer home so that even the less fortunate sections of the people in the region might profit from this professional course of study.
The founders believe that no education, professional or otherwise will be worth the name if the imparting of instruction in different branches of knowledge is not attended by a proper shaping of character. The college has its name ‘Vivekananda’ from whose life and work it derives its name inspiration and aims at high sense of discipline and character. Also aims at a high standard of education by providing all the facilities needed by the students for completing their studies in a systematic way. Thus adopted ‘Nyayen Dharyathe Lokah’ in its motto which means “The structure of the world is kept in balance by justice”.
Aims of the College
The objectives of Vivekananda Law College are – Enhancement of Legal knowledge by conducting workshops, Symposiums, Conference, Seminars, Orientation Programmes and Career Guidance. To conduct Legal Literacy Programmes and publish quarterly Law News and publish research oriented Journals, Law fests are also conducted to identify the talents of students for the effective functioning of law..
Vivekananda Law College apart from disseminating the knowledge of law, lays emphasis on a new concept ‘Nyayadhara’. A platform created to coach and train the students to appear for Judicial Exams and other Competitive Examinations.
Vivekananda Law College with the avowed intention of educating the rural students to write and speak in English has commenced ‘Communicative English Classes’ with no fee charged.

Vivekananda Law College is located at Nehru Nagar, Puttur, D.K. about 3 kms away from Puttur town along Mercara – Mangalore Highway. The campus where the Law College situated is in very ideal surroundings impressing everybody by its scenic beauty and vast stretches of greenery. Being free from the afflictions of city life, the campus is an ideal place for academic pursuits.
Vivekananda Law College welcomes the students for the year 2020-21. It is a college which has unveiled the value practiced by Swami Vivekananda and established with a vision and mission of Swami Vivekananda by Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha ® Puttur. The college has both 3 years regular course and 5 years integrated course in B.A.LL.B. Admissions started from 1st August 2020.
Facilities in Vivekananda Law College
Library
Library is the heart and soul of an Institution. Housed with 12,838 volumes of books and there are 1516 book volumes of Journals and Reports. Library procures 24 reports and 10 Journals and remaining are the magazines.
All books and reference materials are bar coded with library automatic service. Also provides photo copying Machine.
Hours of Working
Monday to Saturday 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. reading and reference opened.
Rules and Regulations
The rules and regulations of the library applicable to both staff and students. Authorities can withdraw the services of the library if any user violates the rules of the library. Student ID card compulsory to avail the services of the library.
Users and readers thus required to avoid conversation or use of modern gadgets.
Books and reports must handled smoothly and not to re-shelf the materials. Defects found in books or journals must brought to the knowledge of the librarian. Disfiguring and marking the pages of library books with ink or pencil not allowed.
Vivekananda Law College gives prime importance to Moot Court and Mock Trial exercises. In view of this a new Moot Court hall also constructed with all modern facilities accommodated One Fifty students.
The New Moot Court Hall was inaugurated by Justice Ashok B. Hinchigery, Judge, Karnataka High Court accompanied by all the Governing Council members.
Mooting – a form of oral proceeding similar to that of a court proceeding . While presenting the argument Judge shall pose questions on both facts and law to check both aptitude and prompt adaptability .For Law Students mooting is an integral part of Legal Education. It is the closest experience a lawyer will get by studying in Law Schools. Mooting is an academic exercise where student inculcate all the habits and understand both the policies and procedures of court. Students thus results as an effective law by inculcating advocacy skills .. Participating helps to develop Research Skills.
Vivekananda gives an easy access to make use of computer lab for not well versed students. A computer instructor also provided to teach the students both theory and practical’s.
