SDM Institute of Technology is an ambition driven technological institution situated in Ujire within the homely ambiance of SDM Institutions and the serenity of the Western Ghats. Managed by SDM Educational Society Ujire under the impeccable leadership of Sri. D. Veerendra Heggade, the institution has thrived over the years in the areas of academics, innovation, and extracurricular activities. With more than 1500 students availing quality education every year, the college flaunts a testimony of over 2500 alumni ,exceptionally well placed in the society today. The hostel environment at SDMIT nurtures the idea of ‘A home away from home’. There are separate hostel blocks for boys and girls aimed at providing a homely, conducive and progressive environment. This is achieved by facilitating students in their studies, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in a healthy and caring atmosphere. Herein at SDMIT, 70% of our students stay at Hostels, in part due to the excellent infrastructure and environment provided by the college. This leads to a unique inclusive environment wherein students from across regions, religions, culture, language, get together and work towards a common goal of academic and personal excellence. Cultural events, sports activities, personality development programs and social empowerment activities are exclusively conducted for hostel students on a regular basis. All hostel blocks are well connected with 1 Gbps free Wi-Fi network. Apart from this, health facility is provided 24*7, with a dedicated doctor available on call all the times.


Boys Hostel


SDMIT has two boys’ hostel blocks. It is a well-furnished accommodation facility with 27 two bedded, 135 three bedded and 151 four bedded rooms accommodating a total of 1063 students. It is located inside the college campus.


Girls Hostel


SDMIT has two girls’ hostel blocks. It is one of a kind homely and hygienic accommodation facility that consists of 24 two bedded, 139 three bedded and 145 four bedded rooms accommodating a total of 1045 students. It is located inside the college campus.




Hostel is equipped with a pure vegetarian mess providing both South Indian and North Indian food catering to the needs of students from all across the country. Utmost care of hygiene is taken along with all standard checks being ensured while food is prepared in the hostels. A balanced diet, checked and approved by qualified dieticians is provided and a special committee inspects the food every day to check quality. There is a separate section for bakery products. Quality checks are also validated externally through annual inspections by Food Inspectors from the Health Department. The vegetables used are organic and of the highest quality. The menu takes consideration of the needs of students from all parts of India, and thus includes items like chapati, roti and kurma. A unique feature is the inclusion of fruit, salads and desserts in the menu

Teaching staff regularly visit hostel blocks to motivate and facilitate students in their studies. There is a strict code of conduct practiced at all Hostel blocks. Students wishing to stay in the Hostel will have to abide by the code of conduct.

Sports play an important role in developing an integrated personality of students. Physical activities including sports and fitness are important parts of human life. Sports inculcate good health and spirit of friendly competition among students. In addition to this, it also brings in a sense of personal achievement among students. At SDMIT, students are provided ample opportunities to engage themselves in both indoor and outdoor sports.

Indoor Auditorium

Indraprastha auditorium is a unique, pillar less dome structured indoor stadium, with a seating capacity of 3000. Most of the curricular and extracurricular activities of the college are held here. Indraprastha is also equipped with wooden courts of high quality for shuttle badminton and table tennis, and are used to frequently host state and national level tournaments. The stage constitutes 50X30 size with spacious green rooms catering to the needs of big troupes of performers. Indraprastha auditorium played a main part when SDMIT hosted VTU zonal and VTU inter-zone Men’s Badminton tournament.

Outdoor Stadium

Sri D Rathnavarma Heggade stadium  a vast outdoor stadium, which can accommodate over 3000 members in a sheltered space. The stadium has a 400m track with 8 lanes. Also equipped with a separate weightlifting hall, multi-facility gym and a staff room. The stadium has separate courts for long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw and discuss throw.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool of the college is of international standards measuring 50X25 m accommodating 10 lanes. The students thus trained in various styles of swimming for a nominal fee. Several swimming competitions also regularly conducted here.

Multi Gym

The multi-gym consists of various standard equipments like treadmill, cycle, inclined bar etc. It is specially constructed with a view to maintain fitness among students, specifically those who opt to excel at sports. It is freely available for all the students and staff of Institute.


Provide physical and mental fitness to the students. Various yoga techniques taught to the students. Special certificate courses in yoga also offered for students as part of providing a better professional approach to yoga practices.


Good courts for Kabaddi matches with mats. SDMIT hosted VTU Mangalore Zone and VTU inter zone men’s Kabaddi tournament. The SDMIT girl’s kabaddi team won II place in VTU state level inter collegiate tournament.

Volley Ball

The Volley ball court ,ideally designed to host matches of University, state, as well as national levels. SDMIT hosted VTU Mangalore Zone and VTU inter-zone men’s volley ball tournament.

Throw Ball

There are exclusive courts for throw ball matches.




National Service Scheme (NSS)

National Service Scheme (NSS) Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme , launched on Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary year in 1969. The primary focus herein is on development of personality of students through community service.


The main objectives of National Service Scheme are:


  • Firstly ,Identify the needs and problems of the community along with involving them in problem solving process.
  • Secondly ,develop a sense of social and civic responsibility among students
  • Utilization of knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
  • Finally ,develop leadership qualities among students
Orators Club

SDMIT, Orators Club have been started with the aim to make students fluent speakers of English, to motivate, guide & prepare students for real public speaking. The Orators Club also provides the perfect platform for students to give voice to their deepest thoughts with a perfect blend of confidence, vocabulary and expression.

This Club shapes the oration skills of a student by not just encouraging him to speak but also making him a good listener. Doing away with stage fear and breaking the shyness, young blooming students transformed into confident orators. Personal feedback given to every speaker was valuable and helped them get a clear idea of their strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, students  molded to more confident speakers, communicators and leaders.

Youth Red Cross

Youth Red Cross is a voluntary organization functioning at SDMIT since 2011. This unit functions with social responsibility, intending to create better living conditions for the deserving in the society through student volunteers. This ensures creation of a student society that is responsible and oriented in social welfare. Students of SDMIT volunteer to be a part of Youth Red Cross activities that conducted through out the year.

Youth Red Cross organizes activities like blood donation camps, free health checkup camps and health awareness programs completely managed by students under the leadership of concerned faculty.




The academic library is the real powerhouse of any educational institution and conveys its integral role in supporting the core mission of higher education. SDMIT library ,housed in a separate 2-storied building with an area of 1,300 sq.m with modern amenities and facilities. The infrastructure has a centralized facility with a seating capacity of 300 and an open access system for users. It has 35,000 printed resources of books in 6,651 titles, journals, bound volumes and student project reports. Routine activities like data entry, information storage, OPAC search, retrieval, circulation, bar-coding of books, usage index, etc. for instance carried out using an EERPMS software developed in-house.


The college library is a member of the VTU Consortium, DELNET and NDL, and also has the institutionally developed digital collections stored in DSpace Digital Library software for easy access. The library ensures continuous access to the scholarly resources and also provides services to research scholars, faculties, students with professional support to access resources both in print and digital formats.





SDM Institute of Technology placed thousands of students in various reputed organizations since its inception through on-campus and pool drives. We  also welcome interactions with reputed organizations from all over the country for arranging campus interviews.

Preparing students for the professional zone

The institute has MoUs with reputed MNCs and trainers and offers career training for students at various levels of their course. We impart professional etiquettes to our students, and right from the beginning of the course, students are introduced to industrial practices through training in the institute’s in-house training centers like Texas Instruments Innovation Centre, Bosch-Rexroth Centre of Excellence, Wipro Mission 10X Technology Learning Centre, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC), Hackathons, pre-placement training programs, etc.for instance.

  • Personal Holistic Competence(PHC)Training: Primarily focuses on building a strong value system as a base and building the persona around it.
  • Orators Club and Communicative English: Trains students to build communication skills and to overcome stage fright.
  • Soft skill training for improving public speaking, problem solving skills, leadership, team building, etc.
  • Industry-readiness pre-placement trainings on in-demand cutting edge technologies from industry experts of top MNCs.


    The placement cell of SDMIT provides complete support to the visiting companies at every stage of the recruitment process. The institute equipped with arrangements for pre-placement talks, written tests, group discussions and personal interviews, as per the requirements of visiting companies.
